Horse Takes a Sabbatical for Eight Years, Returns Home as if Nothing Happened

You have to love this story. Eight years ago, Shane Adams of Utah was camping in the desert with his saddle horse, Mongo, when a herd of wild horses ran by. Although Mongo was tied up, he was so excited to see the mustangs that he broke free and took off after the herd. Adams spent three years searching for his horse, with no luck. He notified the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) about the missing horse, then finally gave up looking.

Fast forward to September 2022. Officials on military land spotted Mongo and guessed from the way he moved and acted that he might have once been trained. Mongo also had a brand matching the one described by Adams to the BLM many years ago. Mongo was successfully captured and reunited with Adams.

Adams said that Mongo came home a few hundred pounds lighter but acted as if he'd never left. Adams was even able to saddle him up and ride him immediately. "Eight years of being wild," Adams reported, "and he acts like nothing ever happened."

Wonder what kinds of marvelous thrills and spills he had over those years? Almost like the old story of a husband going out for a pack of cigarettes and never returning. Whatever adventures Mongo had in the desert wilds, one thing's for sure: he's not talking.
